"I've had so many awesome opportunities through my major and through Point Park! This summer I'm a social media intern at Kennywood Park. I found out about this internship through a professor in the School of Communication and it's been a great fit for me.”
Why did you choose to transfer to Point Park University?
I really liked the atmosphere on campus. From the moment I applied to Point Park I was greeted with open arms. A professor from the School of Communication called to talk with me about my future major, and the University was extremely helpful when it came to answering my questions. I also had a few friends who were already attending Point Park and really enjoyed it. When I finally transferred I knew it was a perfect fit.
What opportunities have you had through your major?
I've had so many awesome opportunities through my major and through Point Park! This summer I'm a social media intern at Kennywood Park. I found out about this internship through a professor in the School of Communication and it's been a great fit for me. Shameless plug - I'll be taking over the University Snapchat account this summer during my internship so stay tuned!
I've also had the chance to go to the Pennsylvania state capital and lobby our legislators for more scholarship money for college students. In January, I went to Washington, D.C. on a university-sponsored trip and covered the presidential inauguration. That was a really amazing experience. I can't wait to see what opportunities are in store for next year!
You're the newly elected President of United Student Government. Why did you get involved with USG?
I was involved with student government in high school and when I came to Point Park, a high school friend of mine was involved with USG on campus. She insisted that I get involved and I did almost immediately. Once I got involved with USG I saw how much good it does for the student body and the University. Now that I've been elected as President, I look forward helping the student body in any way I can.
Conestoga Hall or Pioneer Hall?
My first year at Point Park I lived in Conestoga Hall and I really enjoyed it. Last year I was a Resident Educator in Pioneer Hall. When I first moved into Pioneer I kept thinking about how I really missed Conestoga. However, the sun starting shining through my window and oh man, was that a game changer! My room in Conestoga faced into the building so we did not get a lot of sun. In Pioneer, we had sun all the time, so I'm going to have to go with Pioneer.
Where is your favorite place to eat in the city?
I can always eat at Las Velas in Market Square! They have great food and it's such a fun environment to be in with friends.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
The college experience is what you make it, so get involved! I've made lifelong friends and learned so much through the organizations that I'm involved in on campus. I look forward to meeting the class of #PointPark21 at Pioneer Experience this summer as well! It's going to be a great year and I know you're going to love Point Park.
