"It all came together that I made the right decision to major in broadcasting at Point Park when I sat behind the U-View desk for the first time during my freshman year. Feeling the studio lights on my face and testing my mic before starting the show hit me, and I knew I was in the right place."

Why did you choose Point Park University’s broadcasting program?

Point Park is the only school I applied to. I took a tour and immediately knew Point Park was for me. I love how hands-on the broadcasting program is and how you can immediately begin working with student media.

Which faculty have had an impact on you?

Andrew Conte has been my biggest supporter and inspiration. He pushed me out of my comfort zone to make me a stronger interviewer. He has reminded me that this is what I was meant to do, even when I felt defeated or not good enough.

Tell us about your recent internship with WTAJ-TV's Studio 814.

I can’t even begin to express how much this internship meant to me. Having the opportunity to go back to my hometown and intern with the news station I grew up watching felt so special.

I was an intern for Studio 814, their lifestyle show. I worked side-by-side with Morgan Koziar and Jack McCune and appeared on air three days a week. Getting to be on air was an experience, and I felt like I was living my dream!

I learned so much in my few months there and feel so much love and appreciation for the entire station. Morgan and Jack were the best mentors and friends I could have ever asked for.

Devyn Interviews WTAJ Interns for National Intern Day

What’s it like living and learning in Downtown Pittsburgh?

I’m a city girl at heart. It was a new feeling when I started here, but every time my parents dropped me off at the beginning of the school year, seeing that big yellow bridge gave me a feeling that I was home.

All the food options in Downtown Pittsburgh are a highlight for me. I will always recommend YuZu Kitchen, located within walking distance to Point Park's campus. Their fried rice always makes me feel better on a bad day. Plus, it has a beautiful ambiance.

What are your career goals?

I always say I would be the next Jimmy Fallon if I could! I hope to host a lifestyle or talk show and interview a variety of people. I believe so firmly that we need more positivity in the world of news, and I hope to be the one to share that.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Point Park has changed my life and shaped me into who I am today. If you’re thinking of choosing this school or even this program, DO IT! College is hard work, but if you love what you’re doing and where you are, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
