"I really enjoyed my time at the Internship and Job Fair. Being able to network with professionals that work in your field is a wonderful opportunity."

Steven Fisher, junior accounting major and transfer student

For students seeking their first job, third internship or in need of career advice, the Professional Career-Readiness Center at Point Park University recently offered both a Job Fair Prep and Resume Review workshop and an Internship & Job Fair right on campus.

“The Spring 2020 Internship & Job Fair brought together more than 80 organizations to connect Point Park students to meaningful opportunities. Attendees had an opportunity to engage with employers to learn more about various career paths and organizations,” said Jessica Hobson, M.A., director of the Professional Career-Readiness Center.

Michael Clarke, cooperative education coordinator for the Professional Career-Readiness Center, hosted the Job Fair Prep and Resume review workshop in JVH Auditorium Jan. 30 while Hobson organized the Internship & Job Fair held in the Student Center Feb. 6.

“I really enjoyed my time at the Internship and Job Fair. Being able to network with professionals that work in your field is a wonderful opportunity. If you are looking to build a reputation in your career field, the fair is a one-stop shop for making great connections,” explained Steven Fisher, a junior accounting major and transfer student from the Community College of Allegheny County.

While at the fair, Fisher connected with employers including PNC Bank, Chase Bank, Live Nation, Pittsburgh CLO, and The Talent Group.

“As someone looking to go into the entertainment industry as an accountant, my goals are to find opportunities in internships and co-op experiences before I graduate. The assistance provided by the Professional Career-Readiness Center and Alumni Services has put me in the right direction,” said Fisher, a graduate of Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh.

“I attended the Job Fair to be interviewed for the game day intern position at PNC Park for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The fair was very organized and I enjoyed seeing so many employers looking at and considering Point Park students for job and internship offers,” said Julia Hester, a sophomore sports, arts and entertainment management major from Neshannock High School in New Castle, Pa.

“My career goal is to work for the Pirates, Steelers or another company as a marketing manager. Point Park is helping me reach my goal by having so many connections in and out of the Pittsburgh area. My professors also know a lot of people and help students in any way possible. They give us all the information and knowledge we need to succeed in the future and follow our dream jobs,” Hester added.

Jacob Schwartz, a junior information technology major, Navy veteran and transfer student from Grossmonth Community College in San Diego, discussed internships and full-time positions with the following companies: DES Inc., Grant Street Group, Pioneer Power Group, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, PNC and RoadRunners Recycling.

“I met some really great people at the job fair!” said Schwartz, who graduated from Cheltenham High School in Cheltenham, Pa.

Schwartz added: “My career goal right now is to land a position as a SQL developer or data analyst. I am getting a lot of amazing guidance from my two favorite professors, Dr. Mark Voortman and Jeff Seamen. They have both taught me a lot for my future field, and they are constantly providing me with information and links to potential employers and internship positions.”
