"I’ve had many opportunities because of Point Park and my major. I traveled to New York and met industry professionals working at Madison Square Garden, The Lincoln Center, Barclays Center, Atlantic Records and other major companies. I also went to Los Angeles for the Pollstar Music Conference, where I was able to learn from some of the biggest names in the music industry."
Why did you choose Point Park?
I chose Point Park because of the urban campus and the sports, arts and entertainment management program. I knew I wanted to work in the music industry and the unique SAEM program at Point Park caught my attention.
What opportunities have you had through your major?
I’ve had many opportunities because of Point Park and my major. I traveled to New York and met industry professionals working at Madison Square Garden, The Lincoln Center, Barclays Center, Atlantic Records and other major companies. I also went to Los Angeles for the Pollstar Music Conference, where I was able to learn from some of the biggest names in the music industry. At the conference, I met Khalid after hearing him speak about his music career. In addition to those experiences, I was president of the Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management Club my junior year, where I gained a large amount of experience producing, marketing and running events.
Tell us about the internships you've landed throughout your time at Point Park.
As a sophomore, I worked with Promowest Productions / Stage AE as their marketing promotions intern, where I gained valuable concert industry experience. I'm currently one of the special events and marketing interns at the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, a nonprofit that puts on daily events in Market Square. I've worked at major events like Picklesburgh and Light Up Night with the PDP.
What are your favorite things to do around the city?
I love going to a variety of events Downtown. The best part about living in Pittsburgh is all of the activities - from concerts at Stage AE to musicals at the Benedum Center. Students get many discounts around the city, including discounted tickets to Pirates games and museum admission. There's never a dull moment living in the heart of Pittsburgh.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
My advice would be to get involved immediately and never turn down an opportunity to gain experience. Every opportunity that you say yes to will help you learn and build connections. Also, introduce yourself to your professors and ask them for help. They can open a lot of doors for you.
