"When I was researching the School of Communication professors, they all had amazing portfolios. It’s so beneficial being able to learn from such established professionals."
Why did you choose Point Park University?
I always knew that I wanted to attend a school in Pittsburgh, and Point Park ended up being the perfect choice because of its location. Point Park’s location is ideal because the city has so many job and internship opportunities. I also liked how the School of Communication offers public relations and advertising together in one major instead of separately. When I was researching the School of Communication professors, they all had amazing portfolios. It’s so beneficial being able to learn from such established professionals.
You’ve held two leadership roles on the executive board of the Campus Activities Board. How do you think those experiences will help you in your career?
Last year, I was the public relations coordinator for CAB and this year I am the advertising coordinator. Not only has CAB given me the opportunity to work in positions that relate to my major, but I have also gained leadership experience. CAB has pushed me to step out of my comfort zone, challenge myself and grow as a professional.
Tell us about your previous internship experiences.
The first internship I had was during my sophomore year with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as their special events coordinator. I helped plan their Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest Gala, Passion for Wine Gala and Great Strides races. I still volunteer at their events whenever I get the chance. I also interned with Katie Love at Love Social Media, where I worked with different companies on their social media marketing. I’ve also done some freelance work as a social media coordinator, where I helped local businesses in my hometown establish a presence online.
Where can we find you hanging out in your free time?
You can usually find me hanging out with my friends or roommates. Movie nights in my apartment are always a fun, relaxing way to unwind, but I also enjoy exploring the city and finding new coffee shops to try.
With the holidays approaching, how do you celebrate the season in the city?
I absolutely love the holiday season! I am excited for Pittsburgh’s annual Light Up Night and to go ice skating in Market Square. Pittsburgh is so beautifully decorated and I love seeing all the festive lights. Market Square’s Holiday Market is also a fun place to walk around and shop for unique gifts for friends and family.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
My best advice is to step out of your comfort zone and get involved! If you stay in your room and never venture out, it’ll be hard really enjoy the college experience. College is such a great opportunity to not only further your studies but to also grow as an individual. Try new things, explore new places, meet new people and remember to enjoy it all because it will fly by fast.
