"I selected Gianna because she immediately displayed a passion and energy for the position in addition to demonstrating an understanding of my brand’s mission, vision and values. She also had some related previous experience."
"They don’t treat this like a typical college at Point Park, but rather encourage you to think outside of the box and learn from real-world situations and experiences. My professors, like Camille Downing and Jenna LoCastro, have pushed me to do my best and encouraged me to learn more about the industry in a way that makes sense to me."
What factors led you to pursue a degree in PR and advertising from Point Park?
I was originally a journalism major, however, PR and advertising gave me the ability to be flexible and work on more communication skills that are of more interest.
Tell us about the work you do as a social media and content intern for Fresh Nostalgia.
I write blogs for the boutique, take pictures of the merchandise for content (like Instagram posts and stories) and plan monthly content calendars to ensure everything is on track to be shared.
How have Point Park’s classes and faculty helped you excel in this internship?
They don’t treat this like a typical college, but rather encourage you to think outside of the box and learn from real-world situations and experiences. My professors, like Camille Downing and Jenna LoCastro, have pushed me to do my best and encouraged me to learn more about the industry in a way that makes sense to me.
Why would you recommend the PR and advertising program to a prospective student?
You get real-world experiences at such a young age as a Point Park student. Being in the city, the program utilizes the agencies and corporations around us as teaching examples, instead of relying on PowerPoint presentations and doing quizlets. Plus, since the classes are small, you get one-on-one attention and support during your college career.
What are your career goals?
Honestly, to be happy and keep learning. This industry is so lively and always changing, and it’s awesome that I can learn things every day while also applying them to a future job. I hope to land a job in an agency setting or work in a PR role in the fashion industry.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Joining AdFed/PRSSA will get your foot in the door and kick start your professional career beginning your first year at Point Park. The club provides great opportunities and helps you develop relationships with students, professors and industry leaders in the city.
