"Professor Mervosh opening this event to freshmen gave us a great way to begin making connections that may be helpful down the line. I am very appreciative of this opportunity."

Francesca Pascale '23, HR management major

Human resource management students at Point Park University recently networked on campus with HR representatives from a variety of organizations — from the City of Pittsburgh, PPG Industries and SAP to HR 4 Small Business, the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association and Nesco Resource.

The networking event, hosted in collaboration with PHRA, not only included Point Park HR management students (and alumni), but also PHRA members and students from La Roche University.

“SHRA is focusing this year on networking with the HR community, both professionally and at the collegiate level. Current HR professionals and fellow students not only from Point Park University, but all educational institutions will be their co-workers and peers. This event was the first effort to develop those relationships,” explained Sandra Mervosh, M.S., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, assistant professor and coordinator of Point Park’s human resource management program.

“The one thing everyone has been telling me since my very first day at Point Park University was to get involved as early as possible. I took this as my opportunity to start putting myself out there, which was very intimidating as a first-semester freshman. However, I am so glad I took advantage of this opportunity,” said Francesca Pascale ‘23, a human resource management major from Northgate High School in Bellevue, Pa.

Pascale added: “One of the greatest things about HR is that there are so many areas you can try out before you really find what fits you best. You can become a well-rounded business professional in HR, and that truly is my goal. Professor Mervosh opening this event to freshmen gave us a great way to begin making connections that may be helpful down the line. I am very appreciative of this opportunity.”
