Concentrations

Students in the program choose one of four M.A. concentrations, while the MBA courses provide the necessary business skills in areas such as finance, managerial methods, organizational management and strategic skills. To enter this program, prospective students must complete admissions applications and be accepted for both the MBA and the M.A. programs.

M.A. Concentrations

Advanced television production. Professional video techniques. Students in our broad-based, flexible broadcasting concentration can tailor their graduate degree to equip them with the skills to be an essential part of the broadcasting industry.

Documentary

Watchdog journalism. Independent filmmaking. Documentary. Reporting. Storytelling. Social justice. In the age of Netflix, independent documentary has become one of the most effective ways to tell important stories about the world we live in. Public Relations and Advertising

Public relations. Integrated marketing. Branding and identity design. Social media. Research. Managing creative people. This is the realm of a content strategy specialist in public relations, advertising and social media. Students will learn the latest theory and practices in creating persuasive messages that influence the public on behalf of corporations, government, education and non-profit organizations.

Sports Media

Sports media and marketing. Podcasting. Advanced television production. TV anchoring and producing. Students in our broad-based, flexible sports media concentration can tailor their graduate degree to equip them with the skills to be an essential part of the sports communication industry. Connections are key, and you will make them through hands-on experience with sports teams in the Pittsburgh region and beyond.
