You were recently recognized as a"Top 10 Most Influential Woman in Technology 2020." What does receiving this honor mean to you in your career?
I'm humbled and thrilled to be recognized as a top influential woman in technology — although I can't wait until the day when we are all just humans in technology! One of the best things about the tech field is that it has the potential to be the great equalizer. People can move into technology positions from so many different backgrounds, and use their lived experiences to be successful in tech.
How have your Point Park graduate and doctoral experiences prepared you for professional success?
Point Park delivers a product that is the perfect blend of theory and application. All of my professors and advisors have been rooted in Point Park's approach to educate the whole learner, and knowing where academics meets practice allows a unique perspective on being strategic AND tactical, doing the right thing at the right time.
As president of Cloud Adoption Solutions, what stood out to you most when hiring a Point Park alumnus and student intern?
Being able to hire career-ready employees at all levels is increasingly important. With workplaces being "on" all of the time, cloud-based applications always being up-to-date and available, and demands that start before the new employee has their first minute of training, it's imperative that employees come prepared with subject matter expertise and professionally-sharpened soft skills as well. Point Park truly prepares their students through portfolio development, whole-human approaches, and professors who know what's going to hit these students in the proverbial real world.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Technology is here to stay — we've seen a true acceleration to digitization during the pandemic, and it's only going to continue. If you're considering a career in technology, YES. It's for everyone — regardless of your career point, pursue tech. It's demanding, inspirational and rewarding.
