Meet Balint Oltvai

Major: Cinema Production
Expected graduation: 2018
Hometown:
Pittsburgh, Pa.
High school: Central Catholic High School

Why did you choose Point Park?

I chose to come to Point Park University because it has a very strong cinema program compared to other schools in the region.

What makes going to Point Park for your major different from any other university?

Point Park’s cinema program is unique compared what other colleges offer because it greatly focuses on the production aspect of filmmaking rather than just film theory and history. While theory and history are important in learning any craft, Point Park gives its students a plethora of opportunities to produce works both in and outside the curriculum, which I hold at great value.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

Christopher Sepesy due to his wide knowledge of films.

What do you like most about going to school in the city?

The city of Pittsburgh provides me with a mental attitude to strive in my studies and in my projects. As a commuter, I find myself more focused on campus rather than at home.

What have you learned about yourself during your time as a Point Park University student?

I’ve learned that you have to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible. Put yourself out there and you will succeed.

What's the biggest difference between high school and college?

The biggest difference between high school and college is the ability to study exactly what you are interested in pursuing as a career, rather than just general studies.

What advice would you give to an incoming student?

Find something you are passionate about and surround yourself with people who are as passionate as you, and then just start doing.
