Why did you choose Point Park University?

In choosing Point Park, I also chose Pittsburgh. The city sold me on the school and vice versa. I knew the city had opportunities to offer, particularly in sports, and I was told that the university would allow me to get actively involved from day one. That’s exactly what has happened in my four years at Point Park — I got involved immediately and went on to take advantage of the countless opportunities that came my way through the school and the city.

How are you involved on campus?

I’ve tried to do as much as possible throughout my college career. I've been an active member of student media at Point Park, working with the newspaper, radio station and TV station throughout my four years. I'm currently the news/sports director of U-View Television and work as the sports editor of The Globe after serving as the editor-in-chief during the 2016 calendar year. I’ve also worked in the Athletic Department as a communication apprentice for three years, providing coverage of Point Park sports. In addition, I work with the United Student Government, Pittsburgh Center for Sports Media and Marketing, the Honors Program and the Broadcast Education Association.

Tell us about your internship experiences.

During the summer after my freshman year, I began working as a video production intern with the West Virginia Power as a result of attending the Baseball Winter Meetings with the Center for Sports Media and Marketing. That eventually led to a full-season internship with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016 in media relations. I transitioned from baseball to hockey that year to work as a media relations intern with the Pittsburgh Penguins. I’m still currently with the team as a media relations game night employee.

I spent last summer with the Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business as a marketing communications intern. In Spring of 2018, I will work as a broadcasting intern with WQED-TV. Outside of internships, I’ve also freelanced for the NHL NetworkAT&T SportsNet and multiple visiting TV networks for NFL teams during the preseason at Heinz Field

"Always say yes to opportunities and get involved as much as you can because you never know what something will lead to down the road. Point Park is a great school, but you have to chase the opportunities that are here. They won’t come to you sitting in your dorm room."  -- Josh Croup

Do you have a favorite Pittsburgh sports team?

As a fan, I have to go with the Pirates because baseball was my first love. Some of my fondest memories are at PNC Park. Although the team hasn’t had as much success as the others have, I’ve always felt a special connection with the team and its history. It’s really hard to pick just one favorite, but I’d put the Pirates at the top of my list.

What are you looking forward to this holiday season?

I love going home to spend time with my family and eat mom’s cooking! It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Say yes before the reasons to say no slip into your mind. I heard that from journalist Jane Pauley at a talk recently and I wish I could go back in time and give my younger self that advice. I always spend way too much time thinking about reasons for not doing something instead of taking advantage of them immediately. Always say yes to opportunities and get involved as much as you can because you never know what something will lead to down the road. Point Park is a great school, but you have to chase the opportunities that are here. They won’t come to you sitting in your dorm room.
