Why did you choose Point Park University?

When I visited Point Park for the first time, I could immediately see myself going to school here. I knew for sure that I wanted to go to a small school and to be in the city, so Point Park was perfect for what I was looking for. To put it simply, the campus is just really cool. It is such a unique place and immersed in Downtown Pittsburgh, which is what sold me on my decision.

How are you involved on campus?

I am the financial director of Phi Beta Lambda, and vice president of the Student Accounting Association. I’m also a member of the Honors Student Organization. I have gained so much experience from getting involved, and I love feeling like I can make a difference.

What do you enjoy most about your major?

I took accounting classes in high school and have known since then that I wanted to pursue an accounting career. Point Park really got my attention because of its location right in the middle of Pittsburgh, surrounded by hundreds of companies. There are so many job opportunities for me right around the corner. All of the accounting and business professors that I have here are so knowledgeable about the real world and know what it takes to secure a job. Also, my involvement in the Student Accounting Association has taught me so much about the different areas in accounting and what it takes to sit for and pass the CPA exam.

Where can we find you hanging out on campus?

My favorite place to hang out on campus is Village Park. I love the scenery, and it’s a great place to hang out with friends, eat lunch, or study. When I first toured Point Park, it immediately caught my eye because it adds a little bit of green to the city. I always look forward to the warm weather so that I can sit out there and enjoy the sunshine.

Where are the best places in the city to explore?

Since I’ve been here, I’ve really tried to take advantage of the amazing places around our campus. I love the Strip District with all the neat vendors and shops that you can’t find anywhere else. There are also a ton of incredible restaurants, my favorite being Harris Grill, just a few blocks away on Fourth Avenue. I also love going to the museums that offer Point Park students free or discounted admission.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

It’s never too early to start looking for jobs or internships. Even if a company prefers someone a little older, showing them that you have initiative and determination will help them keep you in mind for the future. Don’t forget to use all of the resources that Point Park has to offer. They have career fairs, resume building, and faculty that have real-world connections. Become acquainted early on with the school and everything that it has to offer so when the time comes, you know where to go for help.
