Why did you choose Point Park University?

I chose Point Park University because this was the school that felt like home. I loved the location and the sports, arts and entertainment management program was perfect for me. After I attended my freshman orientation, I knew my future was heading in a positive direction at Point Park. I would rather have a small class than have a lecture hall, and I have been able to connect with faculty, staff and students on an individual level.

You were a resident educator for two years. How did that position help you become a better student and professional?

I’ve seen tremendous growth in myself as a result of this position. I was (and continue to be) a resource for students whether they lived on my floor or not. My goal was to make students comfortable with the college transition, be someone for them to talk to and ask questions, and to support them through one of the best adventures in life! Professionally, I learned how to handle conflict, communicate clearly and host events. I’ve met so many wonderful professionals and students on campus that I have great relationships with now, and I know I will keep adding to my network.

What do you hope to accomplish this year as the administrative coordinator for the Campus Activities Board?

As the administrative coordinator, I want to make sure everyone feels welcomed into our CAB office in the Student Center. I also want to encourage everyone to join the general board to be a part of the amazing events that we create on campus. I can’t stress enough how beneficial it is to get involved with CAB. You make so many friends and get to be creative on your campus!

Tell us about your internship with Stage AE.

I am a marketing intern with PromoWest Live at Stage AE in the North Shore. I get to do really fun things with the team like promotional events for upcoming concerts. One of the things I love to do is talk with people around the city about their favorite bands/artists and spread the word about Stage AE. We get to collect that data to try to eventually book those concerts. I also get to “street team,” where I visit local businesses and distribute our upcoming shows calendar so everyone around town knows who’s coming! This internship is by far one of the coolest experiences a student could have.

As a Pittsburgh native, what fun facts can you tell us about the city?

Pittsburgh is such an awesome place to live. I love the little quirks about this city. I am not too great at fun facts, but I definitely can tell you places to go here in the ‘Burgh. Everyone should visit the Strip District. They have the sweetest little shops, grocery stores and restaurants. My personal favorites are La Prima Espresso Co. for their cappuccinos and Prestogeorge Coffee for their tea and holiday blend. Pamela’s Diner is also great and the breakfast is super yummy! Stamoolis Brothers Co. has great cheeses, olives, meats - literally everything about that place is amazing. Another great place in the city is Frick Park. It's very big, beautiful and a fun place to hang out.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

This is one of my favorite questions. My best advice is to get involved and network! It is extremely important to get involved on campus. The Campus Activities Board, United Student Government, clubs in your academic department and the Office of Student Life are great places to start. The people you will meet by putting yourself out there will take you places in life far beyond what you are envisioning for yourself right now. You never know who you will meet and how they will impact your experience in college and in life. I challenge you to go up to a stranger, say hello and start a conversation.
