Why did you choose to transfer to Point Park?

I transferred because I knew I would have better opportunities to further my career. I began my studies as a journalism major and switched to study sports communication. So many doors opened after I changed my major and I knew I was exactly where I needed to be.

In my classes, we took a behind-the-scenes tour to watch the broadcasting of a Pittsburgh Pirates game, which was an amazing experience. Additionally, my classmates and I met Jim Wexell, who has written books about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I love that Point Park is not only close to my hometown, but also in the middle of a city with access to sports teams and so many connections. Opportunities have been endless — and accessible — thanks to a great city and the sports communication program.

What have you enjoyed most about Point Park’s sports communication program?

The sports communication program is very hands-on and I love that. I feel prepared to take on any assignment and ready for the real world. Most, if not all, of my professors are currently working in communications and journalism. This paves the way for relevant advice, genuine teaching and future opportunities.

When did it all come together that you made the right decision to major in sports communication at Point Park?

I knew it all came together because it felt right. My path started in journalism because I wanted to be a news anchor, but I felt called to work in sports. I struggled with making the change to sports communication because I thought it would be harder to do something new. My advice is to embrace the new, the uncomfortable and the unfamiliar. It may be hard, but that's when growth happens.

What are the benefits of living and learning in Downtown Pittsburgh?

Downtown Pittsburgh is close to all of the sports stadiums. Additionally, you can't beat the incredible view of the city when you are in class. That's something I love to look at.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Take a deep breath and exhale. Don't forget to remind yourself that you're doing an amazing job. Also, network and do good work.
