What factors led you to transfer to Point Park University?

I transferred to Point Park University from Juniata College to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. It was close to home during the pandemic and Point Park has a renowned broadcast program, so it was a good fit.

How did the B.A. in journalism prepare you for a career in broadcasting?

The B.A. in journalism prepared me for my career by providing me with hands-on experience through U-View, the student-run television station. I had the opportunity to do various jobs in the studio, such as reporter, anchor and director. That experience has all tied into my current position at WTRF-TV.

What are some of your favorite Point Park memories?

My favorite memories of Point Park are from U-View, specifically working with U-View's NewsNight.

What steps did you take to secure a job in the industry so soon after graduating last spring?

During the summer of 2023, I interned with WTRF through one of my professor's connections. When it was time to apply for jobs, WTRF had a position open, and I got hired. It's all thanks to the connections I made through Point Park.

What are your responsibilities in your current role?

Currently, I serve as a weekend weather reporter. During the week, I am in the field as a multimedia journalist. I write, shoot and edit my stories and I typically have two stories each day. Most of the time, I deliver my stories live during the newscasts.

What advice do you have for high school students considering Point Park’s School of Communication?

I would highly recommend considering the School of Communication at Point Park. As a graduate working in the field, I can say that Point Park's broadcasting and journalism programs live up to their name and reputation.
