"Point Park University’s sports, arts and entertainment management program helped prepare Rebekah tremendously for this opportunity. Point Park has a unique way of getting you integrated into the exact career field that you want to be a part of even before you graduate. With the amount of internships and classes Rebekah had before joining the Salem Red Sox team, she was more than prepared thanks to Point Park University."

Suzie Cool '18, manager of marketing and promotions and on-field host and color commentator, Salem Red Sox

"Point Park and my SAEM classes really helped me build the foundation I needed to be successful in the sports industry while allowing me to explore different career options. When I started at Point Park, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to work in sports or entertainment, and the SAEM program gave me the freedom to explore and keep myself open to all different types of opportunities."

Tell us about the work you do for the Salem Red Sox and how you got connected to this opportunity.

As the media, graphics & promotions assistant for the Salem Red Sox I wear a lot of different hats, but my main focus is assisting in all of our digital efforts, as well as having my hands on pretty much every facet of game presentation. This includes designing graphics for social channels and our videoboard, running our social media in-game, helping execute all of our inning break games and a whole lot more!

Point Park University was instrumental in my connection to this opportunity, as my supervisor, Suzie Cool, is also an alumna. When I saw this position posted on Teamwork Online, I knew I would be working under Suzie. I had followed her on social media a few months before after seeing a Point Park alumna web profile on her. Since we both had worked for the Pittsburgh Penguins, I asked my supervisor at the Penguins to reach out to Suzie with a recommendation and the rest is history!

As a native of Northeastern PA, what drew you across the state to Point Park University?

My grandfather and dad have been die-hard Steelers fans their entire life, so I was born and raised with Pittsburgh in my blood. I visited the city for the first time when I was 15 — and just knew that it was where I was meant to be — so I focused my college search there.

I toured a few different schools, but Point Park was always at the forefront of my mind because of the sports, arts and entertainment management program. The minute I stepped on campus I fell in love and knew it was the school for me!

Please list all of the career-related experiences you had as a Point Park student.

How have your SAEM classes prepared you professionally?

Point Park and my SAEM classes really helped me build the foundation I needed to be successful in the sports industry while allowing me to explore different career options. When I started at Point Park, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to work in sports or entertainment, and the SAEM program gave me the freedom to explore and keep myself open to all different types of opportunities.

On top of that, my classes were vital in helping me develop my time management skills. I took six classes a semester for three years, typically while working two or three jobs and staying involved on campus. This really taught me how to juggle all my responsibilities and balance my work and free time, which is crucial in an industry such as Minor League Baseball where you are often doing the workload of a few jobs all wrapped up in one.

What are your favorite Point Park memories?

The memories that always stick out to me are getting to attend Her Conference in New York City with my Her Campus team members my freshman year, going to the 2016 Baseball Winter Meetings with the Pittsburgh Center for Sports Media and Marketing and my internships with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pitt Athletics.

Also, getting to live Downtown with my best friends and having all kinds of adventures right at our doorstep was something that I’ll never forget!
