"Megan stood out during the internship process as someone who was professional and extremely focused. Point Park University is way ahead of the game when it comes to understanding the importance of social media. I was asked to speak to a social media class and was impressed with the course material."
"From the beginning of my college career, Point Park's faculty have been wonderful. It is very easy to get in contact with a professor if you have a question, and they go above and beyond to help you out with academics and outside opportunities."
Tell us about the work you do as an intern for Love Social Media.
As an intern for Love Social Media, one of my biggest duties is managing a Facebook and Instagram account for one of Katie Love's clients. I either take the content the client gives us or I create my own content and schedule it to post daily on both social media platforms. The goal is to boost engagement and followers for the client.
Additionally, I create a lot of different graphics on a site called Canva for several different clients to use and do research on many different businesses in the Pittsburgh area. One of my favorite things about the work is that I am not just doing one thing, but also focusing on a multitude of different areas and expanding my knowledge.
What factors influenced your decision to attend Point Park University?
Point Park University was one of only three schools I looked at when applying to college, and it was the first one I visited. The moment I stepped foot on campus, I felt like I belonged and knew that this school was the one I was supposed to attend! Coming from a small town, I loved how there were so many different things to do surrounding campus. Also, knowing that I would have smaller class sizes and get to know my professors very well was a big plus!
In what ways have Point Park's faculty members impacted you?
From the beginning of my college career, Point Park's faculty have been wonderful. It is very easy to get in contact with a professor if you have a question, and they go above and beyond to help you out with academics and outside opportunities.
The SAEM faculty have especially done this for me. There have been countless times where they have gone over my resume and e-portfolio, connected me to professionals in the Pittsburgh area and discussed my future career goals with me. It has been such a gratifying experience to have professors that truly care about your future!
As a junior, what are you looking forward to this fall at Point Park?
Since I am a junior, this fall I am looking forward to taking more of the sports, arts, and entertainment management classes. I have Facilities and Venue Design and the Recording Industry in the fall, so I am excited to see where those take me!
Also in the fall I will be taking over as vice president of marketing for the Campus Activities Board. I am very excited to start implementing new and interesting marketing tactics on campus and boost the excitement for our events in the fall.
What are your career goals?
Right now, I do not have a set plan on what I want to do as I graduate, but I do have a few things in mind! Travelling has always been an interest and goal of mine, so ideally I would love to have a job that allows me to travel and constantly move around. Right now, I have really found a love for social media management and marketing, so that's my career focus at the moment. Both of the internships I have this summer are for smaller start-up companies, so I could also see myself sticking in that direction.
