How did you land your current positions with Stage AE and The Clarks?

I was one of the first interns at Stage AE after it was built. While interning, I landed a job as the box office assistant and less than a year later, I was named the box office supervisor.

I became the stage manager for The Clarks based on the connections I built with the band over the years. The band members are originally from my area (Indiana, Pa.) and I've known them for years. I also did a job shadowing assignment with them for a class during my freshman year at Point Park.

What factors made you choose Point Park's SAEM program?

I started off at Point Park in public relations and advertising but the major wasn't what I expected. After taking one course in SAEM, I realized it was a better fit for me. I was already interested in music management so it made a lot of sense. Overall, I chose Point Park because it is located in a city, has a good balance of arts and business and the University offered me a soccer scholarship.

What do you love most about your jobs?

At Stage AE, I'm surrounded by music professionals. I'm able to learn about many different facets of the concert industry from people working at all levels.

As for my job with The Clarks, I love being right in the thick of things. It's very exciting to have big crowds in front of you. It's also cool getting to do sound checks with lots of expensive equipment.

What are your career goals?

I would eventually like to manage concerts or a venue. I am open to different opportunities and would also like to continue to play music.

What advice do you have for prospective students considering a career in music management?

Make connections and use Point Park's resources to the fullest. Internships are crucial - always pursue more than one. When an industry professional is on campus speaking, take the time to talk with that person and stay in touch. It's always worth reaching out to someone even if you think you don't have a chance.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Point Park gave me the opportunity to do something I enjoy. I wouldn't have expected to come this far this quickly and I owe a lot of that to Point Park.
