How did you land your position with the Ocean City Police Department?

By attending the WestPACS Job Fair, I was able to gain knowledge about the job positions offered through the Ocean City Police Department. After attending the job fair and giving out my resume to the recruiter, I decided to apply. Part of the application process included attending a testing date, followed by an interview and then completing a background investigation.

Why did you choose Point Park University to study forensic science?

I chose Point Park University to study forensic science for many reasons. First, the forensic program offered through Point Park was one of the best. Second, the location of Point Park was close to home allowing me to stay close to my family.

How have your Point Park classes helped you in this summer position?

The forensic science classes I have taken at Point Park have helped me in many different aspects of this job. The forensic evidence classes provided me with in-depth knowledge of fingerprinting and drugs. This has helped me because a part of this job includes searching individuals’ property when they come in and when drugs are found. I am able to use the knowledge I gained from that course to identify the drug and the side effects of the drug.

Also, the investigative courses I have taken have played a role in helping while searching property. This course has helped me because in both the course and the job it’s very important to be thorough and not miss anything important.

What are you looking forward to most when you return to Point Park in the fall?

When I return to Point Park, I’m looking forward to continuing my education and learning more things that will help me in future jobs. I am also looking forward to being back home and in the city.

What are your career goals and how do you think your forensic science degree will help you reach them?

My career goals include one day either working as a criminal investigator or a forensic pathologist both of which my degree in forensic science can help me reach. The courses offered at Point Park, along with guidance of my advisor, Dr. Edward Strimlan, has helped me set a path for various career choices.
