"I was planning to go to grad school for at least my master’s degree, and I was dreading how long it would take. This program was ideal for me because the Psychology Department is great, and I could not imagine pursuing a graduate degree anywhere else. I am very excited about the ability to complete two degrees at an accelerated rate."

Bridge Outreach connects the street community population with various resources. What does your practicum entail?

I shadow one of my full-time colleagues once a week. We visit camps to deliver supplies or talk to people of the street community. We talk to people about their needs and make them aware of how those needs can be met. We attend meetings and fill out paperwork for various programs, such as grant writing.

What have you learned through your experience at Bridge Outreach so far?

I've gained interpersonal skills, listening skills and an amazing relationship with the staff that I would not trade for the world.

How is this practicum helping you work toward your career goals?

I want to work for a nonprofit in the future, so it gives me that experience.

How did you find out about Point Park University?

I went on a tour of the school my junior year of high school. I fell in love with the library. My main factor for choosing this school was the amount of financial aid I received.

Why did you decide to enroll in the B.A./M.A. psychology program, and what do you like about it?

I was planning to go to grad school for at least my master’s degree, and I was dreading how long it would take. This program was ideal for me because the Psychology Department is great, and I could not imagine pursuing a graduate degree anywhere else. I am very excited about the ability to complete two degrees at an accelerated rate.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

Robert McInerney, Ph.D., is easily my favorite professor. He is eccentric, yet honest. I have never had a professor like him before, and it’s refreshing. He is very passionate about what he teaches and very compassionate.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

A: “Knowledge rooted in experience shapes what we value and as a consequence how we know what we know as well as how we use what we know.” ― bell hooks
