Point Park University's Musical Theatre Summer Intensive offers a comprehensive and immersive experience for aspiring performers. This two-week program provides students with rigorous training in acting, singing, and dance, preparing them for potential careers in musical theatre.
Students will receive expert guidance from two renowned Creative Directors: Kiesha Lalama, the Managing and Artistic Director at Point Park's acclaimed Pittsburgh Playhouse, and Gary Kline, an internationally influential musical theatre professor with over thirty years of experience at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama.
This intensive summer program offers personalized instruction and mentorship, focusing on nurturing each student's mind, body, and spirit while cultivating the talents of each individual artist.
Students must be accepted into the program before they can register.
Awarded scholarships will be manually added by our team after we receive your registration and deposit.
This exciting program is open to incoming high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors ages 15 and over, and recent high school graduates taking a gap year as of the upcoming fall semester.
This program is open to the first 40 students who are accepted and pay the required deposit. Acceptance into the program is by audition only. Candidates will be notified on a rolling basis via Accept'd of their acceptance status. Please audition, register, and pay your deposit early to ensure a spot in this program!
Overview:
Application Requirements:
- Resume: A one-page professional resume of your experience.
- Two Contrasting Song Cuts, at least one from a Musical, no more than 90 seconds per song.
- One Monologue of any era/style, no more than 90 seconds.
- One letter of recommendation from a trusted educator.
- Short Personal Statement no more than 300 words.
Further Recommendations;
- Slate. Please provide your name and the name of the play your song/piece is from. Let your personality shine through!
- Frame both your song and monologue so you are facing the camera at a medium shot. However, please use your best judgment for what will work for the pieces selected.
- Do not do a scene with someone reading lines off-camera.
- You may shoot your audition from your phone or tablet. We are not worried about high production value. The most important thing is that we can see you and hear you.
- Please remember to review your takes, see what works, and make adjustments as needed before submitting. Trust yourself and do not be overly critical.
- Do your best! Have fun! Be you!
Candidates will be notified within 2-4 weeks of their acceptance and scholarship status.

Kiesha Lalama, M.F.A.

Kiesha Lalama, managing and artistic director of the Pittsburgh Playhouse, is an internationally recognized artist who has created works for stage, film and television.
Lalama has choreographed feature films such as “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “Sorority Row,” as well as the documentary series “Broadway or Bust” (PBS), the critically acclaimed television series “Outsiders” (WGN) and “American Rust” (Showtime).
Lalama is the co-founder and choreographer for the Jimmy Awards (Broadway).
Gary Kline

Gary Kline is recognized nationally as one of the finest voice teachers and educators. A Professor Emeritus from Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama he served as Musical Theater Coordinator for some 33 years, building a Program of National prominence before recently joining Point Park University.
During his tenure at CMU, Gary taught The Art of Cabaret, Acting A Song and Private Voice Lessons to such theatrical luminaries as Christian Borle, Patrick Wilson, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Patina Miller, Leslie Odom Jr., Denee Benton, Corey Cott, Megan Hilty, Matt Bomer, Jason Schmidt, and dozens more outstanding artists. Our experiential classes will afford our students valuable insights into the industry and college audition process, while developing their skills in a supportive environment, giving them a competitive edge.
Our comprehensive curriculum will include:
- Intimate Classes Designed to invite individual growth in the multi-disciplines of Musical Theater Singing, Acting, and Dance.
- Audition Preparation, including Monologue and Song Repertoire.
- Advice and ways to prepare for College Dance Auditions.
- Advice on filming Prescreen Submissions.
- Master Classes with renowned Musical Theater Artists (TBA)
- A unique daily Class emphasizing a holistic approach to cope with the stress of auditions and the business.

Payment Information:
All payments are due before the start of the program.
Registration and payments will be handled through our easy, user-friendly online registration platform, CampDoc. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Electronic Checks are accepted. Payment plans are available. Students receive a t-shirt with seasonal swag and an ID holder with their registration!
Non-Refundable Deposit:
A non-refundable deposit of $300.00 is required to reserve your space in the program. Please review our FAQs for the most up-to-date information on cancellations and refunds.
Room / Meals Information:
Residential students receive 3 meals on weekdays and 2 meals on weekends (19 meals total per week). Commuters receive a daily lunch and dinner buffet. All meals take place in our Lawrence Hall Dining Room.

*Airport Shuttle
Students arriving for this 2-week intensive on Sunday, July 6, 2025 may opt-in to be picked up at the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) between the timeframe of 9:00am EST and 3:00pm EST. The first shuttle will leave the Pittsburgh International Airport at 9:00am EST to drop students off at Point Park University for check-in. The last shuttle will leave Pittsburgh International Airport at 3:00pm EST. Please plan accordingly to have flights arriving between 8:00am EST and 2:00pm EST on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Accommodations will not be provided for shuttle service for students arriving outside of the provided timeframe.
Students departing from the 2-week intensive on Friday, July 18 or Saturday, July 19, 2025 will be departing Point Park University at specific times. All students leaving on Friday must have flights that depart later in the evening (departure after 8:00pm at the earliest). All students leaving on Saturday are requested to have flights departing after 10:00am. Please plan accordingly and send itinerary information to summercamps@pointpark.edu.
Artistic merit scholarships are available. Each student will be considered and evaluated when their application is submitted. Scholarships are good towards tuition costs only. Room and board are not applicable.
1. A 30% tuition discount is currently offered to Point Park University employees, alumni, and their immediate family members. Family is defined as yourself, your spouse, and/or your children. Room and board costs are not available for this discount.
Welcome to our campus!
All classes will be held on campus at Point Park University in the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Experience downtown's Center for Arts and Entertainment.
The option to live on campus is available to students at least 14 years old.
We will do our best to fulfill roommate requests, but requests are NOT guaranteed. Students will have the opportunity to enter requests during the registration process.
Each residence hall has multiple points of secure access to student living areas, such as keycards, access codes, and lock and key. Laundry is available for free to residential students.
Adult Resident Assistants (current Point Park Students) live on campus to supervise students who are minors. Each RA is responsible for eight to ten minors.
