Join us for the It’s On Us Fashion and Film Festival – an inspiring evening of creativity, awareness, and empowerment!

Celebrate the power of art and fashion in raising awareness about sexual violence prevention and fostering a culture of consent and respect. This unique event will feature original short films by students and designers showcasing fashion collections that promote messages of solidarity, support, and advocacy.

Come together with our community for an evening of powerful storytelling, bold designs, and meaningful discussions. Let's make a difference—because it's on all of us to end sexual violence.

 

Project Fashion Show

Show off your skills and make a statement at the It’s On Us Project Runway-Style Fashion Show! We’re looking for talented individuals and teams to create original outfits inspired by themes of empowerment, consent, and advocacy. Whether you’re an experienced designer or just starting out, this is your chance to showcase your creativity and make a difference.

Participants will compete to have their designs walk the runway at the IOU Fashion and Film Festival and for the chance to win exciting prizes. Each outfit should reflect the values of the It’s On Us campaign, using fashion as a powerful tool for change.

1. Eligibility

Open to all Point Park University students. Participants can enter individually or as teams of up to 3 members. No prior design experience is required—just creativity and passion!

2. Theme

All designs must reflect one of the following themes: Empowerment, Resilience, or Consent. Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from the "It's On Us" campaign, incorporating elements of advocacy, support, or activism into their designs.

3. Design Guidelines

Number of Outfits: Each participant or team must create 1 complete design.

ABSOLUTELY NO NUDITY or PROFANITY

Materials: Participants can use any materials they choose but must not exceed a materials budget of $200.  Submission of a purchasing request form from Joann is required at the time of design submission.

Bison Exchange Collaboration: Students will have a set time available to shop in the bison exchange.  Any purchases in Bison Exchange are limited to the overall $200 budget.

Sustainability: Optional: Encourage the use of recycled or sustainable materials.

Originality: Designs must be original and created specifically for this contest. No pre-made or pre-bought outfits are allowed.

4. Timeline

Submission of Sketches: Designers must submit initial sketches or concepts by January 10th to rharper@pointpark.edu or deliver them in person to the student health center along with other mandatory forms.  Please pick up an information packet at the health center or one of our promotional tabling events.

Selection and Approval: Design slots are first come, first serve. Designers will be notified of approval by January 15th.

Work Period: Participants will have 7 days to complete their designs. Open work space time is booked in LH200 for January 20-21.

Fashion Show Date: The contest will culminate in a live fashion show on January 22nd, where all final designs will be modeled.

5. Fashion Show Requirements

Models: Participants must secure their own models for the fashion show.

Runway Presentation: Each design will be showcased on the runway. Designers will have 2 minutes to introduce their collection and explain the inspiration behind it.

Judging: Judging will take place during the fashion show. Designers will be evaluated on their presentation, creativity, adherence to the theme, and craftsmanship.

6. Judging Criteria

Creativity: Originality and innovation in design.

Theme: How well the design reflects the "It's On Us" theme or message of empowerment.

Craftsmanship: Quality and construction of the garments.

Runway Presentation: Overall impact and presentation on the runway.

7. Prizes

1st Place: Prize still to be determined. 

2nd Place: Prize still to be determined.

Audience Choice Award: Audience members will vote for their favorite design during the fashion show for a special recognition.

8. Submission Guidelines

Sketches must be submitted by January 10th.

Final designs must be ready by January 22nd at 3pm.

Submission for preapproved description and introduction from designers by January 20th at 3pm - to ensure preparations for any trigger warnings.

All designs must be presented during the fashion show to be eligible for judging.

9. Disqualification

Any use of pre-made or commercially available garments that are not altered or repurposed will result in disqualification. Participants must adhere to the materials budget and deadlines. Missing deadlines may result in disqualification.

Original Film Contest

It’s On Us is calling all Point Park students to step behind the camera and use their creativity to make a difference! Enter our It's On Us Film Contest for the chance to shine a spotlight on the importance of consent, respect, and standing up against sexual violence. Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker or just want to use video to make an impact, this is your chance to be heard and bring your vision to life.

Amazing prizes, recognition, and the power to inspire positive change await! Submissions can be any genre—documentary, drama, comedy, or animation. Show us your unique perspective and help us spread awareness on campus.

Deadline to Submit:
January 15th

1. Eligibility

  • Open to all currently enrolled students of Point Park University
  • No prior filmmaking experience is required.

2. Theme

  • All submissions must address the theme of sexual assault awareness, prevention, consent, healthy relationships, or bystander intervention.
  • Films should aim to inspire or promote the It's On Us campaign values: stopping sexual violence, supporting survivors, and fostering a culture of consent and respect.

3. Film Requirements

  • Length: Films should be between 2 to 5 minutes long.
  • Format: Films must be submitted in MP4 format, with a resolution of at least 720p.
  • Originality: All content must be original and not contain copyrighted material (including music or footage) unless proper permissions are obtained.
  • Language: Any non-English dialogue must include English subtitles.
  • Content Warning: If your film includes sensitive content, please provide a content warning at the beginning.
  • Absolutely NO Nudity or profanity

4. Submission Guidelines

  • Deadline for submission: January 15th, 2025
  • Films must be uploaded to YouTube as unlisted and then a link must be emailed to rharper@pointpark.edu
  • A completed entry form, including team member names, contact info, and a brief description of the film (100-200 words), must accompany the submission.  Please pick up entry forms in the health center or at one of our tabling events

5. Judging Criteria

  • Relevance to the Theme: How well the film addresses sexual violence prevention and It's On Us themes.
  • Creativity: Originality and creativity of the message and film presentation.
  • Impact: Emotional, social, or educational impact of the film.
  • Technical Quality: Overall production quality (cinematography, editing, sound, etc.).

6. Prizes

  • First Prize: TBD

  • Audience Choice Award : TBD
  • Winners will be announced at IOU Fashion and Film Festival

7. Ownership

  • By submitting a film, participants grant permission for Point Park University and the It's On Us campaign to use, screen, and distribute the film in any future promotional or educational efforts.

8. Disqualification

  • Films that do not adhere to these guidelines or include inappropriate, hateful, or harmful content will be disqualified.
