ABOUT COVID-19

On Friday, March 1, 2024, the CDC released its updated recommendations for protecting communities and yourself from respiratory viruses including COVID-19.  The new guidance addresses precautions for common respiratory viral illnesses such as COVID-19, flu, and RSV.  Point Park University, historically, has aligned with the CDC guidance with the additional guidance of the Allegheny Health Department and other community medical partners.

For the health and safety of our campus community, we continue to provide care and available treatments to our students in the Student Health Center.  The guidance for when a member is feeling sick is as follows:

  • Stay up to date with vaccinations – this includes flu, COVID-19, and RSV if eligible. These vaccines are not required but strongly encouraged.  If you need assistance please contact the health center.
  • Practice good hygiene – cover coughs and sneezes, wash or sanitize hands often, and clean frequently touched surfaces.
  • Take steps for cleaner air – bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, and gathering outdoors.
  • Stay home when sick – if you have a fever or symptoms are severe, stay home. You can return to normal activities when you have been fever-free for greater than 24 hours without fever-reducing medications and your symptoms show improvement.
  • Take prevention strategies – when you are sick with a respiratory virus, wear a well-fitting mask, keep a distance from others, enhance hygiene practices, and take steps for cleaner air.

As always, contacting the Student Health Center for medical management and absence excuses is necessary.
