COVID-19 Student Resources Student Affairs Updates
Point Park University is taking a number of precautions to ensure that our students and community are prepared for the potential impact of COVID-19. If you are feeling any one of these symptoms please contact a health professional immediately.
Resources for community members
Point Park University continues to monitor the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by COVID-19, first detected in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. While there are reported cases in Allegheny County, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 linked to any member of the Point Park University Community.
The University is responding in the following manner:
Temporary suspension of classes
The University will cancel in-person classes on Friday, March 13, Saturday, March 14, Monday, March 16, and Tuesday March 17. Classes will resume on Wednesday, March 18 with instruction delivered online or in alternative forms for the remainder of the spring semester. Faculty will receive further instructions and guidance from Provost John Pearson and his team. Students will receive information from their faculty. For those students involved in internship, cooperative education, and student teaching, please adhere to schedules provided at your placement sites. A decision on commencement activities will be determined at a later date.
Education
The University has communicated with, and will continue to communicate with, students, faculty and staff on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines on best hygiene steps to prevent exposure and transmission of the disease.
Prevention
The University has increased cleaning services in high impact areas of the campus that see the greatest degree of foot traffic. The University is providing additional hand sanitization stations in these areas along with instructions for proper hand sanitization techniques.
Counseling
Due to the COVID-19 response, the University Counseling Center will adjust its operations for the remainder of the spring term. At present, the center is not open to walk-in service requests or in-person meetings. We continue to be able to provide consultation and referral support via phone. If you would like to schedule a consultation, please call or email us.
Our support for the Point Park Community remains steadfast. The UCC and other aspects of the student support network remain dedicated to supporting the well-being of our community. We encourage you to take care of yourselves and each other during this time of distress and uncertainty by remaining informed, acknowledging any difficult feelings and staying virtually connected with loved ones.
