Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony Honors Those Who Have Served Monday, November 11, 2024
"Honor, value, valor, service—our military personnel present and past embody those attributes for us to admire and acknowledge."
Leaders of Point Park University took time to honor the veterans in our community on Mon., Nov. 11 at a recognition service held in Village Park.
Vice President of Student Affairs Keith Paylo served as emcee and welcomed the attendees to the decade-long tradition. President Chris W. Brussalis acknowledged veterans in the audience and presented them with a pin and commemorative coin.
The keynote speaker was Randy Baird, a US Air Force veteran, who received two degrees from Point Park University: a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1988 and an MBA in 1999. Baird has been an adjunct professor in the Rowland School of Business for 26 years.
"Honor, value, valor, service—our military personnel present and past embody those attributes for us to admire and acknowledge," Baird said. He encouraged the audience to take the time to thank past and present military personnel. "A simple gesture and yet so important to those individuals to be acknowledged for their sacrifice and service," he said.
The ceremony concluded with the placement of a wreath decorated with American flags in front of the Village Park fountain and a moment of silence.
