Bob Pompeani, a 1982 graduate of Point Park University and award-winning sports anchor at KDKA-TV, will give the University's undergraduate Commencement address on Saturday, May 7, at 10 a.m. at Consol Energy Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.

"As an accomplished graduate who has enjoyed a successful career in broadcasting and a committed member of our local community, Bob Pompeani is an inspiration to our students and a source of pride for the University," said Paul Hennigan, president of Point Park University. "With great passion for his profession and the city he has always called home, we are pleased to have him as our Commencement speaker this year."

A sports anchor for KDKA-TV News, Bob Pompeani began his career at KDKA-TV in 1982. Mr. Pompeani presents the KDKA-TV "Extra Effort" award to local students who excel in athletics, academics and community service. He has visited more than 700 local schools and produced feature stories on each outstanding student. In 1997 Mr. Pompeani was voted Pittsburgh's favorite sportscaster in a reader poll of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in April of 2007 for his many contributions to local sports. Mr. Pompeani has received three Golden Quill Awards: first in 1987 for his report, "Earning Their Stripes," a story about hockey officiating; second in 1988 for "Project Playoffs"; and in 1990 for his piece, "Violence in Sports". In addition, he has won two Mid-Atlantic Emmy awards and two AP awards for play-by-play of Steelers Pre-Season games and an AP award as host of the "#1 Cochran Sports Showdown."

Point Park will also present Steven B. Stein, a 1970 graduate of Point Park and former member of the University's Board of Trustees, with an honorary doctor of humane letters degree as part of the undergraduate Commencement ceremony. Mr. Stein was chairman for two successful fundraising campaigns for the University, and was the president and chief executive officer of Allied Security, Inc., one of the nation's largest security firms.

Point Park will also hold its master's degree Hooding and Degree Conferral on Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown. Gary DeJidas, a 1972 graduate of Point Park University, will provide the keynote address. Mr. DeJidas is a member of Point Park's Board of Trustees and the president and chief executive officer of GAI Consultants, an employee-owned, multidiscipline engineering and environmental consulting firm. He will receive a Master of Business Administration degree as part of the Hooding and Degree Conferral.
