One student organization on campus has a big reputation for celebrating their favorite artist in style. We caught up with co-presidents Grace Thomas '26 and Riley Beight '26Sports, Arts, Entertainment and Music Business majors, to learn about the Taylor Swift Society, one of the most devoted student organizations on campus. Started in 2023 by MC Carder '24, the club won "Outstanding New Student Organization" in 2024 at the Outstanding Student Awards

Carder said the best thing about starting the organization was the camaraderie. "No one in the room would look at me crazy when I asked if they noticed the seagulls on the cake in the 'I Bet You Think About Me' music video," she said. "Some of my favorite moments include our '1989 (Taylor's Version)' release party, reading Taylor-themed Tarot cards made by a member, meeting up with our 21+ members for Taylor-themed nights at the Roxian and recording audio clips about being Swifties for Sirius XM."

Current co-presidents Thomas and Beight say the goal of the organization is simply to be "a fun and welcoming place to share and discuss all things T-Swift." Some of the meetings have themed activities, such as Taylor Tarot cards in October, "Lover"-inspired Valentine's Day card-making and a picture frame decorating craft, inspired by the song "How You Get the Girl."

What does a meeting look like, and what kind of activities do you plan?

We hold bi-weekly meetings on Fridays. Typically we begin each meeting with a Taylor-themed question of the week before moving on to our activity. We do different activities each meeting, ranging from creating your own personal Swiftie bingo cards to Taylor Jeopardy games.

Why should students join the club?

Students should join the Taylor Swift Society because it is a welcoming and fun environment open to all Swifties of different levels. It’s also a great way to meet new people.

What’s the highlight of being part of the Society?

The highlight is being a part of a community/family where we all share the same interests and having a space where we can come together and talk about anything and everything (not just T-Swift).

Does the Society have a consensus on a favorite album?

Everyone is kind of all over the place with albums, but after conducting a group poll, the majority answer was "The Tortured Poets Department."

Taylor Swift fans anxiously await the release of "Reputation (Taylor’s Version)." Do you have a theory about when it will be released?

We both think that it’s going to come out sometime this year (hopefully!) but we joke that every time somebody on social media comes out with a theory as to when it’s dropping, Taylor pushes back the release date by 13 days.
