"Point Park University's Ed.D. in leadership and administration program has allowed me to honor my commitment to being a leader in urban education."

Lisa Pickett, Ed.D.

Point Park University Ed.D. in leadership and administration alumna Lisa Pickett '18English department director for The Pittsburgh School for the Creative and Performing Arts, was published in the April 2020 issue of the academic peer-reviewed journal, The Urban Review, for her article, "Three Trains Running: The Intersectionality of Race‑Based Trauma, African American Youth, and Race‑Based Interventions."

Pickett's article is based on her Ed.D. dissertation she defended in June 2018 titled, “Race-Based Trauma, Secondary Education Interventions and African American Youth."

"Having my research published by a peer-reviewed academic journal such as the The Urban Review is such an exciting honor. The process was an educational challenge that was well worth the time and effort. The peer reviewers pushed me to fine tune and sharpen my work in a way that elevated my overall ability to effectively communicate the results of my study to a broader audience. Now, all of the information I learned from my research is no longer just sitting in my head! I am excited to share the results," Pickett explained.

She added: "It is my hope that the information may be used to provide insight and make a contribution in some way to the field of education."

When interviewed as an Ed.D. student, Pickett said: "Point Park University's Ed.D. in leadership and administration program has allowed me to honor my commitment to being a leader in urban education."
