Did Point Park's Downtown Pittsburgh location influence your decision to attend the university?

Point Park's location was the biggest factor in my decision. I loved the idea of going to school in Downtown Pittsburgh, sharing the sidewalks and streets with business professionals working for some of the biggest companies in town. It was great being within walking distance to so many restaurants, the Point and all the stadiums. It was my goal at Point Park to eventually trade in my backpack for a briefcase and walk the streets of Downtown Pittsburgh, just like the people I would see on my way to class. I was able to accomplish that goal.

What is a typical day like for you at Valassis?

Valassis is a national marketing and advertising company. I manage more than 50 accounts that advertise with our products; most notable are our RedPlum packages. My days vary, but consist of coordinating everything for my clients from when they want to use our products, to managing their advertising art. I also conduct market research for my clients so they can advertise to the demographics that can help them be most successful.

What advice do you have for today's students?

Take advantage of everything that is available to you. When you graduate and look for a job, you will be in the same boat as millions of others and you need to stick out to employers. Also, do not be stubborn looking for jobs at first because you never know what could come of them.

Why would you recommend the School of Communication to a prospective student?

I would recommend the School of Communication at Point Park because almost all of your professors work or have worked in the field. They give you real-world advice, along with teaching you the basics and more of the industry you want to work in.

What are your career goals?

My biggest career goal is to be successful. I would like to end up working in sports in some fashion. I plan on going to graduate school and getting my M.B.A. in the future. I want to gain as much experience as I can while maintaining and gaining as many connections as possible.
