“I went to Point Park. My daughters went to Point Park. It’s in our DNA. We all received an excellent broadcast journalism education. I can’t wait to see the schools compete for the Pompeani Award.”

Point Park University’s School of Communication is partnering with KDKA sports director/anchor Bob Pompeani to create the Bob Pompeani High School Broadcast Award.

The Pompeani Award will recognize the best high school broadcast show in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Schools must submit a broadcast show via an online submission form by Jan. 6, 2025

The top five schools will be invited to Point Park on Feb. 8 to do a live show. The top-rated show that day will receive a $1,000 award and plaque from the School of Communication.

Bernie Ankney, dean of the School of Communication, said the competition will be fierce.

“I have seen the broadcast shows of probably 20 high schools in Western Pennsylvania," Ankney said. "They are excellent. The judges will have a tough job picking just one high school to receive the Pompeani Award.”

Pompeani said he was honored to have the award named for him.
