How has your MBA degree helped you achieve career success in the health care market?

Health care today accounts for 17.9% of our National GDP, or $3.5 trillion annually. This number will continue to grow with our aging population. My Point Park MBA degree has enabled me to gain a greater understanding of the core cost drivers in health care, challenges we face as a country and health care delivery models of not only the U.S., but other nations as well.

In my role at RxBenefits, Inc., I focus of one of the fastest-growing costs and most volatile components in health care, pharmacy benefits. My MBA knowledge enables me to speak to the employee benefit consultants I work with at a more technical level than I would have been able to without an MBA from Point Park.

Tell us about the work you do and how your MBA classes have helped you.

As a business development executive for RxBenefits, Inc., I partner with employee benefit consultants to help their clients achieve better cost control for the fastest growing, and most volatile components in employee benefits — the pharmacy benefit spend in a group health plan.

I wear two hats in my role with RxBenefits, new business sales and consulting. The Point Park MBA program improved my research and presentation skills, while also helping me gain greater macroeconomic understanding in my concentration of health care.

What factors made you choose Point Park for graduate school?

As a working professional, an accelerated program with the ability to earn an MBA in 12 months was very appealing to me. A concentration in health systems management at a convenient Downtown location, sold me on the program. Class flexibility between weekday, and weekends, was also a very important factor in choosing Point Park.

What is your favorite Point Park grad school memories?

My favorite memory is networking with fellow students working in multiple industries.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Although I no longer live and work and Pittsburgh, having the convenience of a Downtown location, was a major benefit of attending Point Park. The faculty was absolutely first class, and cared about the success of students.
