What inspired you to pursue a degree in sport, arts and entertainment management at Point Park?
I started out in the broadcast journalism program where I had a great experience learning how to write in a journalistic style as well as how to shoot and edit film. During that time, I became more drawn to a career in entertainment and sports. After meeting Assistant Professor Ed Traversari and learning about the SAEM program, I decided to change majors. I was happy to stay at Point Park and excited to be a part of the growing SAEM program.
How has your SAEM degree helped you in your career field?
Through the SAEM program, I was able to take advantage of unique opportunities including working with Live Nation, job shadowing in the Pittsburgh Penguins' media relations department and volunteering at non-profit arts events. The exposure to real-life, diverse experiences helped guide me toward the career I wanted to pursue and also opened doors for many opportunities to help mold my career into what it is today.
Please list internship and career-related experiences you had throughout college.
- Job shadow with the Pittsburgh Penguins' media relations department
- Internship with the Talent Group
- Internship with Markowitz Communications
- Production runner for Live Nation
- Part-time Pittsburgh Pirates Canonball Crew Member
How did you land your current position at MARC USA?
I decided to pursue a career in public relations after my internship experience at Markowitz Communications where I learned about the many aspects of being a PR professional and was exposed to agency life for the first time. I loved the experience and, after graduation, took on the challenge of working toward a career in PR. Fast forward to two years after graduation, I have gained experience through internships and positions at multiple, award-winning advertising agencies in the Pittsburgh area, leading me to my current position at MARC USA.
What are your future career goals?
My career goals include continuing to work in PR and social media, and following the ever-evolving, fast-paced trends of the advertising, digital and social media industries. I have had a unique experience working in the PR field within the advertising industry, which provides a collaborative and innovative atmosphere. I love the constant challenges and am excited to continue working in that type of environment.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Even though there were challenges that came with pursuing a career in public relations out of college, I continued to be driven, persistent, patient (sometimes not so) and up-to-date with current trends during my search for a position. It took some time, but I have had great experiences throughout my journey and look forward to continuing my career path in an industry I'm so passionate about.
