How did you land your current position with CVS?
After I completed my M.B.A., I was in search of more of a leadership role in the area of pharmacy operations. I knew that the strong knowledge I gained while obtaining my M.B.A. degree would complement my previous real life work experiences and would help me grow professionally in pharmacy operations. Also, I wanted to find a position within a well-known company where I could continue to grow and develop my career goals.
While pursuing this leadership role, I saw that CVS Caremark was hiring. I recognized this organization as being a well-respected leader in the field of pharmacy and in the community. I submitted my resume, went through the interview process and based on my work experience and education, was selected for the position.
Why did you decide to pursue an M.B.A. degree?
After holding various positions in the pharmacy and health insurance arenas, I decided I wanted to take on more of a leadership role within a growing organization. The process to obtaining my M.B.A. provided me with the necessary tools needed to help me successfully obtain a leadership role and continue to grow.
What factors made you choose Point Park?
There was no doubt in my mind. My first educational experience at Point Park was a rewarding one. I knew that when I decided to go back for my M.B.A. that I would have the same rewarding experience. As a working adult, the program allowed me to go to class at my own pace, have the flexibility for a work-life balance and gave me the tools needed to succeed. Also, the fact that the class sizes were smaller and the same students were in each of the classes helped me to network with others in the industry.
How has the knowledge gained in the M.B.A. program helped you in your career?
Absolutely! The various classes related to business culture and its behaviors have been extremely helpful. Additionally, all of the health management and various special topics classes have given me the ability to think outside the box with my decision-making. In my current position, I continue to utilize the information that I learned from my classes and apply it to my job on a daily basis. For example, I manage and develop my staff, participate in discussions, interact with others at all levels in the organization and continue to professionally grow as a leader.
What's your advice for individuals working in the health care field who are considering an M.B.A. degree?
I definitely recommend to anyone in the health care field to consider earning an M.B.A degree. My M.B.A. educational experience has provided me with a better understanding of the health care industry and the various aspects associated with this ever-changing field. Plus, I got the opportunity to meet other health care professionals and learn about their professional experiences. It was truly a rewarding experience for me and I highly recommend it for all health care professionals.
