"Point Park's accounting program is preparing me for career success by helping me better understand the standards that businesses and organizations must abide by, teaching me how to follow the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and providing me with a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of accounting. All of my professors have helped shape my path for success, and I've enjoyed all of their classes."
What did your internship with Dollar Bank entail?
I had the chance to see what it is like keeping track of where money is going and how to present it without compromising confidential information. I designed specific application Excel budget worksheets for use in daily operations at the company, developed contact lists and created pie charts explaining demographic snapshots. I learned the importance of time management skills, as it's very common to juggle multiple tasks at once in the accounting field. In addition, I had to humble myself and complete some LinkedIn Learning courses to better understand Excel and PowerPoint. At the end of my internship, I delivered a capstone presentation about my work.
How did this experience enhance the education you’re receiving at Point Park?
My internship enhanced my education by giving me a real-world opportunity to see where money is going, how it's allocated and how to keep track of expenditures within a budget.
Why did you choose Point Park?
I chose Point Park due to its location, access to public transportation and affordability. With its Downtown Pittsburgh location, I like that I can get to campus quickly by bus or the T, and the small campus makes it easy to navigate between buildings to get to all of my classes on time. I also like the sense of community at the University.
