How did you land your internship with Schneider Downs?

I have been interested in gaining experience in the accounting field for some time but was not quite sure when and where I wanted to apply. This past December I received an email from the School of Business about the tax season internship position at Schneider Downs. I knew it would be a great opportunity since they are a very reputable company and are one of the largest public accounting firms in Pittsburgh. I was also pleased that they were located so close to home and right down the street from Point Park. I submitted my resume, had an extremely laid-back, positive interview and then was lucky enough to be offered the position.

What were your key responsibilities?

My main responsibilities were to organize and scan the individual client tax documents into the computer system. I sorted and bookmarked these documents by their appropriate tabs and transferred them to the proper client files. I also assisted in checking processed tax returns.

In what ways did your accounting classes assist you in your internship?

It definitely helped having a basic knowledge of accounting terms and procedures. This was extremely beneficial to me. The guidance of my family and my professors also had an impact on me obtaining the internship.

What were your reasons for choosing Point Park?

I really like the overall size and atmosphere of the campus. I took community dance classes at Point Park for years and had a general idea where things were located which made it easier to become more familiar with the area. It is also close to where I live so it's a convenient commute to and from the campus for me.

Describe your career goals.

After graduating next fall, I intend to enter the public accounting field and go into auditing. I also want to become a certified public accountant and to further my education.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Although taking on an internship during a school semester was challenging, it was a very positive experience. It was a great opportunity for me to gain experience in my field of concentration.
