How did you become involved with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program?

I decided to intern for the VITA program because my professor, Cheryl Clark, recommended it during class last semester. I thought it would be a great opportunity to gain experience in my field as well help individuals get their taxes done for free. I love to help others.

Tell us about the work you do as an intern for VITA.

As an intern for VITA, I help prepare basic tax returns as well as organize taxpayer folders and make phone calls to verify appointments. Also, before I start a tax return, I ask individuals for a form of ID as well as a Social Security card. I usually intern 10 to 12 hours per week.

Why factors made you choose Point Park and accounting as a major?

Location and small class sizes were the reasons I chose Point Park. I chose the field of accounting because I have always been a numbers guy and find details fascinating.

What have been your favorite Point Park experiences?

My favorite experiences at Point Park have been working in study groups and learning about the different aspects of the accounting world at Student Accounting Association meetings.

What are your career goals?

My goal is to work in various areas of the accounting field to see what I like best and then go from there. I also plan to pursue my C.P.A. license after graduation.

Final thoughts?

Interning is a really great experience! All students should consider it because employers look for experience on your resume in addition to your G.P.A.
