Point Park University's Department of Global Management and Organization will host an event open to students, faculty and the general public titled "2011: The Global System in Crisis" on Oct. 27, 2011 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the JVH Auditorium. The event organizer, Dimitris Kraniou, Ph.D., department chair and professor of international economics and management, will present on the topic "Capitalism, Indebtedness and Austerity Issues."

Additional presenters and their topics include:

  • Archish Maharaja, Ed.D., Point Park assistant professor and director of the M.B.A. program: "Developing Countries and the Global Business Environment."
  • Paul Nutter, M.B.A., Point Park School of Business adjunct faculty member: "The Euro Crisis: The Threat to Britain's Recovery."
  • Luis Palacios-Salguero, Ph.D., Point Park assistant professor of economics and finance: "Reflections on Economic Policies and Regulations to Avoid Another Global Financial Crisis."
  • Mike-Frank Epitropoulos, Ph.D., lecturer in sociology and faculty director of the University of Pittsburgh's Pitt in Greece program: "Greece as a Demonstration Project."
  • M.H. Sidky, Ph.D., Point Park professor of global management and organization: "War, Oil and the Crisis in Central Asia."

Following the presentations, there were will be a panel discussion with the following Point Park M.B.A. students and alumni:

  • Christine Demore, operations manager for BNY Mellon
  • Charles Hankle, senior systems engineer at Symantec and former database engineer at Dick's Sporting Goods
  • Gus Miller, communications specialist of nuclear power plants at Westinghouse Electric Company
  • Kate Shaughnessy, manager of international and leadership development at the Oncology Nursing Society
  • Tony Stasa, manager of process improvement for the human resources department at Bayer Business and Technology Services
