The Criminal Justice Club at Point Park University hosted a celebration dinner April 10 honoring alumni Michael Spagnoletti, ’18, and Judge Guido DeAngelis, J.D., ’80.

After more than 30 years of service, Spagnoletti, a veteran, recently retired from his role as community relations and crime prevention officer for the Allegheny County Police Department.

“Officer Spagnoletti was honored for outstanding leadership in law enforcement throughout his career. He has done a lot for the community and for Point Park University,” explained Noelle Wachter, a sophomore criminal justice major from Bethel Park High School in Bethel Park, Pa.

Honorable DeAngelis is currently a judge for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas and was honored by the Criminal Justice Club for many achievements throughout his career in the judicial system.

In the past, the Criminal Justice Club has shown appreciation for Pittsburgh Police officers, honored its police chief — Point Park alumnus Scott Schubert ’07 ’10 — and fundraised for the Homestead Borough Police Department, among other activities.

“I decided to get involved with the Criminal Justice Club because I heard what they do for the law enforcement community. I wanted to be a part of giving back and showing appreciation to our law enforcement who risk their lives every day to protect us,” said Thomas Armstrong, a sophomore criminal justice major from Westerville North High School in Westerville, Ohio.

Armstrong’s favorite part of the honorary dinner was having the opportunity to talk one-on-one with Spagnoletti and Judge DeAngelis.

He added: “My career goals are to work in law enforcement and pursue a career with the U.S. Marshals. The faculty here at Point Park are helping me to pursue this by providing me with information and internships with law enforcement agencies, which will in turn will help me make connections for my career.”
