POSITION:  Academic Coach/CLASS Coordinator

DEPARTMENT:  Center for Learning and Student Support (CLASS)

REPORTS TO:  Director, Center for Learning and Student Support

WORK SCHEDULE:  Fully on campus.  This role is full-time and works a 10 month schedule.

The Center for Learning and Student Support (CLASS) is looking for a 10-month, full-time Academic Coach/CLASS Coordinator to join our team and help our students achieve their academic goals. As an academic coach, you will work with students of different backgrounds, abilities, and interests, and provide them with personalized and effective coaching services. You will also collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for our students. As the CLASS coordinator, you will be responsible for administrative duties related to operations and providing assistance with the management of CLASS staff and programs. This position requires the successful candidate to be a self-starter and to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience as an academic coach, tutor, mentor, or teacher in a university setting is a plus, but not a necessity
  • Experience in managing others
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with diverse students and adapt to different learning styles and needs
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in academic coaching and student success
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient with technology

Responsibilities:

  1. Assess the academic needs, strengths, and challenges of each student and develop an individualized coaching plan.
  2. Provide one-on-one or group coaching sessions on various academic skills, such as time management, study strategies, critical thinking, writing, and test-taking.
  3. Monitor and track the progress and outcomes of each student and provide feedback and encouragement.
  4. Complete and maintain reports/documents related to the operations of CLASS.
  5. Communicate regularly with students, tutors, writing consultants, and the Director of CLASS to ensure alignment and coordination of coaching services.
  6. Identify and refer students to other resources or support services as needed.
  7. Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance coaching skills and knowledge.
  8. Oversee the CLASS inbox and respond to requests/inquiries in a timely manner.
  9. Oversee various administrative duties for CLASS, including communication to staff and other stakeholders in the University, planning CLASS-related events on campus, assisting with record and program management.
  10. Other related duties as assigned.
