Background
Todd R. Avellar, Ph.D., is a visiting assistant professor of psychology and acting director of clinical training (DCT) at Point Park University.
Dr. Avellar was an inaugural core faculty of Point Park's Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology program. He previously filled the roles of placement coordinator, DCT, and acting department chair of psychology and taught a range of courses across the Department of Psychology. In 2022, Dr. Avellar focused his sights on clinical practice when he co-founded a group practice, Avellar Warden Psychological Associates PLLC, alongside Point Park Psy.D. alumni, while also developing a low-cost training clinic comprised of Point Park Psy.D.-enrolled trainees, Avellar Wellness LLC. He is excited to have returned as a visiting faculty and to serve as the acting DCT while Dr. Britney Brinkman enjoys a hard-earned sabbatical.
He is passionate about training applied psychology students and early career therapists at all stages of the developmental pipeline. Clinically, he has focused on client populations that benefit from mindfulness-based psychotherapy, identify as a sexual or gender minority and those who seek to become more fully engaged with their activities via peak performance mind-states.
