The Department of Community Engagement's Pioneer Partners initiative is a volunteer program that brings together Point Park students, faculty, staff and alumni to serve nonprofit organizations in our region.

Pioneer Partners seeks to promote civic responsibility and is committed to improving lives in the community through volunteer programs, service-learning trips, camps and other programs in the community.

Virtual Volunteers

We recognize that during this time of social distancing and stay-at-home orders, our students, faculty, staff and alumni may not be able to volunteer in-person for our wonderful nonprofit friends in the region. We’ve developed a Virtual Volunteers program to identify projects that could be done from home. Nonprofits can suggest at-home project ideas and our Point Park community members can sign up to work with a nonprofit on a particular project.

Volunteers

If you’re interested in lending your time and talent to serve as a virtual volunteer and give back to the community during this quarantine, you can view the list of projects available

If there is a project that you feel you could help with, send an email to communityengagement@pointpark.edu and claim the project. We’ll note it as claimed and you can work directly with the nonprofit to help them with their task.

Nonprofits

If you are in need of a virtual volunteer for a project, you can enter your ideas here and we will try and connect you with a Point Park community member to complete your project. If you have any questions, email communityengagement@pointpark.edu.

First Fridays is a monthly volunteer project typically held the first Friday of every month. If needed, the University will provide transportation. The service will generally involve two hours on-site, not including travel time.

Beverly's Birthdays

Date TBA
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Please check back to RSVP online

We will assemble classroom cheerbags with stickers, pencils, certificates and a crown for grade schoolers to celebrate their birthday at school. This activity takes place in 210 Thayer Hall on campus.

Family House

Date TBA
4 - 7 p.m.

Please check back to RSVP online

Our group will be preparing and serving dinner for families. It is truly meaningful for Family House guests to have a hot meal waiting for them when they come back after a long day in the hospital. Your team will have an opportunity to engage with these families before heading back to campus.

Family House provides a special home away from home for patients and/or their families who are seeking medical treatment in Pittsburgh. By offering convenient, affordable housing in a home-like environment, Family House reduces the emotional and financial stress for people facing a medical crisis in a city where they may be strangers.

As part of the service project, we agree to bring all of the ingredients for the dinner we are preparing. In addition to volunteering, if you are willing or able, we are accepting donations of food or money to buy supplies.
