Computer Desktops and Notebooks
To help ensure any computer you purchase is compatible with Point Park University's network and University-related student service systems, the minimum recommended specifications are listed below for both PC and Apple computers.
Note that hardware needs may vary depending on your major. This is especially true for majors involving media production, engineering and design, or data processing. To ensure the proper machine is purchased, please contact us with the subject line "Computer Purchase Support" and note your major and request for purchase specifications assistance. You will then be put in contact with your academic department to help verify system requirements for your studies.
Minimum Requirements for Basic PC or Mac Computer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 / OS X 10.10 (Catalina) or higher
Processor: Intel Core i5 10th generation or higher. Check with department of study to ensure an Apple computer with an M1 processor will be compatible with class software.
RAM: 8GB
Hard Disk Space: 250 GB or higher
Ethernet Adapter: Built in, or USB to Ethernet adapter puchased separately
Display Resolution: 1280x800
Chromebooks/Tablets
Please be aware that Chromebooks and some tablets do not allow you to install the full software suite for Office 365 and textbook publisher virtual labs. If you utilize one of those devices, you may need to make alternative arrangements if those additional pieces of software are required for your class. Please check the information regarding the University Library and the On-Campus Computer Labs which are open and available to all students.
