Food Insecurity Initiatives

400_Pioneer_Pantry_IMG_3249.jpgThe Pioneer Pantry and Corner Store, located on the first floor of Thayer Hall just past Student Accounts, offers two ways for students to receive free food and hygiene supplies.

Students can place orders online for a Pioneer Pantry pick-up. Options include dairy, fruit and vegetables, grains and protein. Orders are identified only by student ID number and are left outside of the Corner Store for pick-up at any time.

At the Corner Store, students can hand-select their items and shop for free. Dry goods and shelf-stable items such as canned food and snacks are always available. Dairy, eggs and produce are on-hand as often as possible. The hours for Fall 2024 are:

Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7–9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 7–9 p.m.

Produce Pop-Ups happen once a month. Produce and dairy items are made available to all students on tables in the lounge on the second floor of Lawrence Hall.

The Pioneer Community Garden provides fresh produce that is grown right on campus in the parking lot behind West Penn. The garden is maintained by members of the Point Park community and is available to students in the Corner Store.

The Nook is a counter-top kitchen located near Point Cafe on the 2nd floor of Lawrence Hall. It contains a refrigerator, blender and counter-top appliances such as an air fryer and skillet. Students are free to use the items provided they clean up afterwards.
