Green Accomplishments and Initiatives
Planning to Be Green in the Best Ways Possible
As part of Point Park's commitment to creating a sustainable Academic Village, the University has pledged to integrate green practices throughout the campus plan. All new construction will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified (more commonly known as LEED certified). Any renovations will be green-friendly in design. The University is in the process of implementing a comprehensive campus sustainability initiative that includes evaluation of current practices and benchmarking the University's continuous improvement process for a sustainable campus.
Our Sustainability Committee is comprised of faculty, staff and students from across the University.
Awards and Recognition
Point Park has already been recognized for sustainable design and construction.
George Rowland White Performance Center Awarded LEED Gold
Point Park's George Rowland White Performance Center earned LEED Gold, one of the highest levels of certification in the U.S. Green Building Council's building performance program. The center is the first of its kind to received LEED-NC Gold for new construction, according to USGBC statistics.
Trane Energy Efficiency Leader in Education Award
In recognition of the University's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability in selecting high performance infrastructure systems for the Dance Complex, Point Park was awarded the Trane Energy Efficiency Leader in Education Award. Point Park is one of just two universities in the United States to receive this award.
