Rivers of Steel at Point Park University, an art exhibition celebrating Pittsburgh's rich industrial heritage and the intersection of past and present, has been extended through March 15, 2012. The show will continue in Point Park University's Lawrence Hall Gallery.

The exhibit features a selection of paintings, lithographs, photographs and sculptures by some of the region's most respected artists, including Aaron H. Gorson, John Shryock, Clyde Hare, Frank Vittor, Robert Qualters, Ron Donoughe, Mark Perrott and others. The works, which date from more than 100 years ago through today, all draw inspiration from the region's steel industry and working rivers. A number are from the collection of Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, a nonprofit that promotes, preserves and archives the steel heritage legacy in the region. These works rarely travel beyond the Bost Building, which houses the Rivers of Steel's museum and archives.

A select number of new works in the Point Park University exhibit are available for sale.

John Tomayko, Ph.D., of TomaykoArts, organized the exhibition.

The next show slated for the Lawrence Hall Gallery is a juried exhibit of works by members of the National Association of Women Artists. Eric C. Shiner, director of The Andy Warhol Museum, will serve as juror. That exhibit will run March 23 - May 19, 2012. It will feature multimedia works, oils, watercolors and sculptures.

Lawrence Hall is located at the corner of Wood Street and the Boulevard of the Allies, across from Point Park's new urban park. All exhibitions are free and open to the public Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. For more information, call the Lawrence Hall Gallery information line, 412-392-8008.
