Dane S. Claussen, Ph.D., Professor/Director of Graduate Programs & Faculty Development, School of Communication, Point Park University, has been elected to the Teaching Committee of the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication (AEJMC).

The Teaching Committee, composed of nine elected members, has a portfolio of responsibilities that includes: standards of academic and professional preparation for teachers in the field; standards of appointment, tenure, promotion, compensation, research and retirement for teachers; minimum standards of equipment and facilities for instruction and research; standards of faculty-administration relationships; and representing the Committee in matters of accreditation, especially the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism & Mass Communication (ACEJMC).

Claussen was one of six candidates for three openings on the Committee. Due to the resignation of a current Teaching Committee member (Paul Parsons, Dean, School of Communications, Elon University) simultaneously with AEJMC elections that ended April 1, Dr. Claussen will immediately join the Teaching Committee and serve the remainder of the term of the Committee member who resigned (through Sept. 30, 2011).

Claussen also serves AEJMC as Editor of Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, an international, refereed, scholarly journal. He became editor on March 1, 2006 and will continue in that position until at least Sept. 30, 2012. He also is Research Committee Chair of AEJMC's Media Management & Economics Division; Immediate Past Head of AEJMC's Magazine Division; and a former Head of both AEJMC's Mass Communication & Society Division and its History Division. In addition, Claussen served on AEJMC's standing Publications Committee and on its Diversity Task Force.
