Tony Yazbeck, a 2015 Tony nominee for Best Leading Actor in a Musical and former Point Park University student, will be the featured 2016 Commencement speaker for Point Park and receive an honorary degree.

The Commencement Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Consol Energy Center. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Yazbeck, who trained at Point Park from 1997 to 1999, earned his Tony nomination for the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of On the Town. He also received Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations, and the Fred Astaire Award for his performance.

Most recently, Yazbeck finished a run in the lead role of J.M. Barrie in the Broadway musical Finding Neverland. His debut album, The Floor Above Me, was released earlier this year.

"While Tony's incredible talent is obvious, it's his passion and commitment that have allowed him to reach his full potential," said Paul Hennigan, president of Point Park. "As a school that prides itself on teaching the importance of good work ethic and being positive forces of change, we are honored to have Tony send our graduates off into the next chapter of their lives."

Yazbeck has a passion for teaching young artists and is involved with the YoungArts Foundation, which helps talented youth in their educational and professional development. He is a master teacher, panelist and director for its program.
