What factors made you choose Point Park for your M.B.A. degree?

I have lived in the United States, including Pittsburgh, for more than 16 years. Point Park's location in Downtown Pittsburgh was a big factor in my decision as well as the small sizes of the classes. I experienced good one-on-one attention from my M.B.A. professors at Point Park.

Tell us about your current work with the Mutete HIV/AIDS Foundation.

I'm the founder of Mutete HIV/AIDS Foundation, a 501c3 organization based in the United States, serving HIV and AIDS patients in East Africa. The mission of our foundation is to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and provide compassionate services by delivering nutritional support to people who are affected by HIV/AIDS and do not have access to good food. Additionally, we work to educate those infected with HIV, particularly women and children in East Africa, in order to end a social stigma and discrimination in society often leading to isolation of the patients.

Like the old proverb, "If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for the rest of his life," Mutete HIV/AIDS Foundation aims to empower families and their children to create a sustainable living and remain educated about how to change the course of the future for generations to come.

When did you land your position with Transamerica and what are your key responsibilities there?

I landed my position with Transamerica in 2012, right after earning my M.B.A. degree. Overall, my responsibilities are to design and proactively implement solutions and processes which enhance my company's productivity and customer satisfaction. It's my job to resolve problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions and determining action plans. I also coach and counsel employees and work to enforce the company's systems, policies and procedures.

What was one of your favorite grad school experiences?

I enjoyed working on projects in small groups and meeting people from different countries and organizations. I liked listening to my classmates share their experiences.

In what ways do you incorporate what you learned in the M.B.A. classroom into the work you do?

In both of my positions, I constantly deal with strategic planning and how to think and work as a team to achieve goals. The knowledge I acquired through the M.B.A. program at Point Park University has been a great tool.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I would like to encourage my fellow Point Park alums to live for something bigger than you. What we leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others. We can use the power of education to change our world. I invite alumni to join the Mutete HIV/AIDS Foundation's great cause. For more information, please visit us at www.mutetehiv.org.
