Why did you choose Point Park’s Accelerated Business program?

I began looking into bachelor's degree courses while my children were in college and Point Park's Accelerated Business program just fit. I asked myself, "What better time is there to go to school than on a Saturday?"  I have gone to school on weeknights before and that was tough. The Saturday class option allowed me to arrive at class refreshed and have the whole day to be away from the work environment. I also get less work calls on a Saturday so I could really focus on school.

How did you make time for college on top of your work and family responsibilities?

Time management was essential. I set aside a special spot in my house to do homework right after dinner and have quiet time.  It was challenging managing all of my responsibilities but I made a promise to myself to stay dedicated and do well. Plus, I couldn’t let my kids in college “show me up.”

How has your degree from Point Park helped you with your career goals?

Point Park gave me the tools necessary to be a better manager and lead by example. I really enjoyed the leadership-focused classes and working together in groups. My cohort in the program was fantastic. Also, I’ve advanced in my career and gotten pay raises based on the knowledge I've gained. The owner of my company, John Greenwald, has recognized my new skills and has increased my management responsibilities.

What advice do you have for individuals considering a degree in business?

There isn’t a better time than now to get into business management. With the rising cost of energy and the emphasis on being green, most companies are concentrated on improving the way they do business and need managers who have the knowledge and skills to work smarter and more efficiently. Also, it’s important to know that going into business management doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be stuck in an office all day. Often in my position, I am out of the office visiting different sites and meeting with my team. Business management is a great field to get into.
