Part-Time Faculty Benefits Summary

Point Park University is pleased to offer the following package to part-time faculty:

  • Medical Coverage: UPMC Health Plan EPO and PPO and Highmark Community Blue HMO.
    • **Eligibility is dependent upon the average hours worked in a twelve month standard or new hire measurement period. If that average is 130 per month or greater, notification of eligibility will be sent as well as enrollment materials. 
  • Double Health Coverage Waiver Option: Employee can elect to waive health insurance and receive a portion of the premium that the University would have paid for coverage. (This amount is announced each year by the University.) A signed waiver and proof of other insurance coverage must be provided.
    • **Eligibility is dependent upon the average hours worked in a twelve month standard or new hire measurement period. If that average is 130 per month or greater, notification of eligibility will be sent as well as enrollment materials
  • Vision Coverage: Highmark Vision which provides for Exam, frames and lenses and/or contacts once every year. There is a very moderate employee contribution for this coverage.

  • Dental Coverage: United Concordia Plus (DMO) & United Concordia Preferred (PPO) (Employee Paid Premium)
    • **Eligibility is dependent upon the average hours worked in a twelve month standard or new hire measurement period. If that average is 130 per month or greater, notification of eligibility will be sent as well as enrollment materials
  • Tuition Remission:
    • Undergraduate programs: Part-time faculty members, their spouses and dependents are eligible for tuition remission for courses in accordance with the terms of this Section. The maximum number of credits for which undergraduate tuition remission is available in a given semester equals the total number of credits taught by the part-time faculty member in that semester. Tuition remission for undergraduate courses shall be 100% of the tuition.
    • Masters programs: The faculty member is eligible to receive masters-level tuition remission for as many credits as they are currently teaching, to a maximum of 6 credits per semester. The faculty member's spouse and dependents are eligible for a 25% discount on masters-level courses in the semesters in which the faculty member is currently teaching.
    • Doctoral programs: The faculty member is eligible to receive a 25% discount on doctoral-level courses in the semesters in which they are teaching at least 6 credits for the University. The faculty member's spouse and dependents are not eligible for doctoral tuition remission. 
      • Graduate and Doctoral remission is taxable according to IRS Guidelines. Fees are not covered by tuition remission. Tuition remission also does not include classes through Community Classes, experiential learning credits or study abroad programs.
      • Note for full-time students who may be eligible for this benefitThe University's institutional financial aid awarding policy states that the student will retain the higher of the two awards: institutional merit and need based aid or part-time tuition remission benefit. Please contact the financial aid office for details of your financial aid awards.
  • TIAA Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA): Eligible the 1st of the month following hire. Employee contribution only. Does not include matching funds by the University. Contributions withheld monthly on a pre-tax basis, up to IRS annual legal limits.

  • PNC Bank-Workplace Banking: Employees are eligible for free checking accounts with no minimum balance, free PNC Bank VISA card with direct deposit from your monthly paycheck. There is a PNC ATM on campus. Contact your local PNC Bank Branch to set up your account and mention that you are an employee of the University.
  • Direct Deposit of Paycheck into checking or savings account: to enroll, complete form and provide copy of voided check to the Payroll Department.
